Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 25, 2026
BuildVoyage is a curated directory of micro‑SaaS products. This policy explains what we collect, why we hold it, and what you can ask us to do about it. The service is operated by BuildVoyage, which acts as the data controller for the information described here. For any privacy request, email [email protected]. We collect little, and most of what we hold you gave us deliberately: an email address, and the details of a product you asked us to list.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and any profile information you choose to share.
- Sign‑in via Google or X: If you sign in with Google or X (Twitter), we receive basic profile details from that provider (such as your name, email address, handle, and avatar) to create or link your account.
- Product Submissions: Information about products you submit, including product name, description, website URL, logo, screenshots, pricing, tech stack, and milestones.
- Submissions Without an Account: You can submit a product without registering. We hold your email address and the details you entered until you confirm the submission using the link we email you. Unconfirmed submissions are deleted automatically after 48 hours and never become a listing. Once confirmed, we keep your email address with the listing so we can contact you about it.
- Edit Links: Confirming a submission gives you a private link that opens your listing for editing without a password. Anyone holding that link can edit that listing, so treat it like a password.
- User Generated Content: Cheers (reactions) and other interactions with products and makers on our platform.
- Sponsorship & Advertising Enquiries: If you submit a sponsor enquiry, we collect your name, email, company name, the product name and URL you wish to promote, preferred dates, target context, and your message.
- Communications: Messages you send us through our contact form or support channels.
Information We Collect Automatically
- Usage Analytics: We use Umami, a privacy‑focused analytics service, to collect aggregated, anonymized usage statistics including page views, referrers, and general geographic location (country level).
- Technical Information: IP address, browser type, device information, and operating system for security and functionality purposes. We do not retain IP addresses or user agents from the contact or sponsor‑enquiry forms; those forms are protected by Cloudflare Turnstile instead.
- Sponsor Click Measurement: When you click a sponsored link, the click is routed through BuildVoyage so we can count it for the sponsor's end‑of‑run report. We store an aggregate click count and use a short‑lived hash of your IP address only to avoid double‑counting reloads — we do not build a profile of individual visitors. Outbound sponsored links carry UTM parameters identifying BuildVoyage as the referrer.
- Activity Logs: For security and audit purposes, we maintain logs of significant actions within your account.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate Our Service: Create and maintain your account, process product submissions, and enable platform features.
- Content Curation: Review and moderate submitted products to maintain quality standards.
- Communication: Send you important updates about your submissions, account security, and service changes.
- Platform Improvement: Analyze usage patterns (in aggregate) to improve user experience and platform functionality.
- Community Features: Enable supportive engagement such as cheering for products. Additional social features may be introduced over time.
- Sponsorships: Respond to sponsor enquiries, arrange paid placements, and provide sponsors with aggregate performance reports for their campaigns.
- Security: Protect against fraud, abuse, and security threats.
Information Sharing and Disclosure
Public Information
The following information is publicly visible on BuildVoyage:
- Your maker profile (name and any profile information you choose to share)
- Product information you submit (after approval)
- Cheers and other interactions you make publicly on the platform
- Activity timeline and milestones for your products
Third‑Party Services
We use the following third‑party services that may process your data:
- Umami Analytics: Privacy‑focused web analytics that collects anonymized usage statistics. Umami does not use cookies or track individual users.
- Google & X (Twitter) Sign‑In: If you choose to sign in with these providers, they process your authentication and share basic profile information with us. Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policies.
- Cloudflare Turnstile: A privacy‑respecting CAPTCHA used on our contact, submission, and sponsor‑enquiry forms to block automated abuse. Cloudflare may process your IP address and browser signals to verify you are human.
- Cloudflare R2: Cloud storage used for hosting uploaded images, media, and generated share cards.
- Email Service: For sending transactional emails related to your account, submissions, and sponsor enquiries.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information when required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of BuildVoyage, our users, or others.
Advertising & Sponsorship
BuildVoyage shows a small number of clearly labeled sponsored placements. We do not run third‑party ad networks and we do not sell your personal information to advertisers.
- Sponsored links: Clicks on sponsored placements are routed through BuildVoyage so we can count them. We store an aggregate click total and use only a short‑lived hash of your IP address to avoid double‑counting; we do not share your IP address with sponsors.
- UTM parameters: Outbound sponsored links include UTM parameters identifying BuildVoyage as the referrer. Once you leave our site, the destination's own privacy practices apply.
- Sponsor reports: Sponsors receive aggregate performance summaries (such as total clicks over a campaign window), never information that identifies individual visitors.
- Enquiry data: Information you submit in a sponsor enquiry is used to assess fit, arrange placements, and contact you, and is retained for our business records.
Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit and at rest
- Regular security assessments and updates
- Access controls and authentication measures
- Secure file upload validation and processing
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as necessary to:
- Provide our services and maintain your account
- Comply with legal obligations
- Resolve disputes and enforce agreements
When you delete your account, we will remove your personal information within 30 days, though some information may be retained in backups for up to 90 days for technical reasons.
The same applies if you ask us to remove a listing you submitted without an account.
Submissions that are never confirmed are deleted automatically 48 hours after they are made. Nothing about them is published, and the email address goes with them.
Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction: Update your details in your profile settings, or through the edit link for your listing if you do not have an account
- Deletion: Delete your account and associated data, or ask us to remove a listing and the email address attached to it
- Data Portability: Request an export of your data in a structured format
- Opt‑out: Unsubscribe from marketing communications (though we may still send transactional emails)
Submitted without an account? None of these rights require you to create one. Email [email protected] from the address you submitted with and we will action it. We only send you transactional email about your own submission — submitting a product does not add you to any marketing list.
International Data Transfers
BuildVoyage operates globally, and your information may be processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place when transferring personal data across borders.
Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware of such collection, we will delete the information promptly.
Cookies and Tracking
BuildVoyage uses minimal cookies necessary for basic functionality:
- Session Cookies: To keep you logged in and maintain your session
- Security Cookies: For CSRF protection and security measures
Our analytics service (Umami) operates without cookies and does not track individual users across sessions. Sponsored‑link click measurement is handled server‑side and does not set tracking cookies (see "Advertising & Sponsorship" above).
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and notify users of significant changes through our platform or via email.
